Interesting article I read this am: http://ow.ly/cKruf on the topic of job v brand. My 2 Cents:
As an executive, you already have a professional brand – the question is – are you managing it or allowing others to so for you?
If you are a professional of any sort – there are events you can attend and speaking engagements you can secure that will 1) promote your company and 2) promote your personal professional brand -they are inseparable at this or any level.
Everything you do online is part of this brand – do you volunteer? Are you connected with wild party people on facebook? Everything that touches you on or offline is exposed to your current and prospective employers and partners.
Unless you are planning to retire next year and move to a deserted island, you’ll want to understand your career trajectory. If you are looking for a promotion next year or moving into a new industry – participating in selected on/offline activities will allow you to promote your brand. This doesn’t have to be launching your own personal website – you’ll have to promote that, too – just creating and letting it sit there doesn’t do you much good.
Work with someone who understands these concepts, check out their clients who’ve implemented their strategies, and see this as an opportunity – not a burden.
