A book by Blake Mycoskie I picked up in a flurry @ the airport sometime last year after hearing I ‘needed to read this book’. It made an impact then – because it helped me formulate my ideas around a for-benefit business model (The fourth sector), and how I could apply that to some of my businesses, and think through why. I’m loaning it to a colleague today and flipped through to look at my notes in the margin – key points –
1. Read it if you haven’t.
2. Love Your Work, Work For What You Love, and change the world – All at the same time (incidentally, this is the Millennial ‘sickness’ that old school workers talk about – here is the beauty of the give-back and still thrive mentality.)
3. Be Trustworthy & Trust Your Employees – Zappos is a great case study that shows the value of transparency – through being acquired to vacation policies to social media policies.
4. It really is possible to make a difference in the community and thrive – the days of volunteering = scarcity are waning!
